Egyptian Beadwork

Egyptian beadwork was well known for its intricate netting patterns and was used frequently in cuffs, collars and necklaces. The ancient Egyptians used to also make large handmade beaded nets that they wore over their clothes as well. These must have taken days upon days to create.

The ancient Egyptians were excellent beadweavers. Many of thier items can still be seen in museums today.

Recently you may have seen my Anck su Namun bracelets that I created. I wanted to go one step further with a more traditional Egyptian netting design and now know how the ancient Egyptians must have felt when creating their beadwork. You have to have eyes like a hawk, the patience of a saint and be prepared to spend a lot of time on what you are working on. I can honestly say it is very very fiddly.

I must say I am very pleased with these two cuffs I have created and hope you will agree that I think they are pretty spectacular. I was going to create around four or five of these but for now I have just done the two.

Lucky Egyptian Scarabs

The ancient Egyptians considered the scarab beetle to be lucky. It was the most common worn amulet in ancient Egyptian times. They also considered it sacred. The scarab beetle was believed to create hope and restoration and to ward off evil. These lucky Egyptian scarab amulets were often given as gifts as good luck charms. The scarab was considered to be as important symbol to the ancient Egyptians as the cross is to Christians.

I have created a range of low cost lucky scarab bracelets. These bracelets are both charming and elegant to wear on their own or wear several together to create an exotic and Egyptian costume effect. I hope the wearer of these bracelets has good luck too. To view the full range or request a custom order please se the link below.

Pandora Beads and their Ancient Egyptian history

Pandora beads or Pandora type beads have actually been around since ancient Egyptian times. Recently however they have been marketed very well by certain high street jewellers and they have turned them into a high street fashion accessory on the jewellery market.

A lot of people don't realise that they are not a new idea but a very old and ancient idea. Taking full advantage of the latest fashion trends and clever marketing some retailers now ask very high prices for thier designs too.

Ancient Egyptians first used these beads as good luck beads then taking things a step further introduced them for various other magical and ritual purposes. One of the main reasons for wearing these Pandora type beads was to establish an identity in the afterlife.

I use some of these beads in my own handmade jewellery in both sterling silver and silver plated.

Here are just a few selected items from my website that I have currently for sale.
